Now, the most common mistake I see: assuming you remember what is the chemical formula of sulfuric acid or methanol. H₂SO₄ is H₂SO₄. But are you buying 98% concentrated or 75% for metal cleaning? The difference matters.
In Q1 2024, a new team member in our office ordered H₂SO₄ 98% for a client’s pickling line. The client needed 75%—they use it in a mixed bath. The 98% arrived, and we had to a) buy expensive dilution equipment and b) spend $350 on a hazmat consultant to approve the on-site handling. A 2-minute check of the end-use spec would have fixed it.

- Not checking your own storage capacity: A 20-ton order of liquid ammonia requires specific handling equipment. If you don’t have it, you’ll rack up demurrage costs fast.
- Ignoring the shelf life of organic fertilizers: They degrade faster than synthetic ones—6-12 months vs. 2-5 years for NPK. Keep an eye on the lot date.
